Advice from the ad hoc panel on the use of generative artificial intelligence in the development and review of research proposals

The Presidents of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC), and the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) thank the members of the ad hoc panel of external experts, who recently provided their advice and recommendations on the use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) in the development and review of research proposals. Their work will contribute to maintaining the integrity of the federal research support system in the face of rapid technological change.

The agencies will carefully consider the panel’s advice and will be issuing guidance to the research community on this topic in the coming months.

More information on the composition of the ad hoc panel can be found here.
